Rewording : Mar (Damas's son) is Jak
Edit
Jak has been named Mar by Damas, Unless the producers of the Jak and Daxter series just used the end of Jak 3 to throw people off, Jak could only be known as the Mar that constructed an entire era.
The debate began when Damas told Jak towards the end of Jak 3, "Promise me you'll find my son, Mar. You'll know him when you see this. He's wearing an amulet just like it. A symbol of our lineage with the great House of Mar," before breathing his least. The same amulet was worn by The Kid in Jak II (Jak being The Kid's older teenage self). Veger rubbed it in by saying "Yes, you were that boy," but it could be possible that he was only referring to Jak as the son of Damas, as was his context throughout his lines. The same can be said when Jak said "Then you can call me by my first name, by what my father called me. Mar."
There is also a theory that Damas just wanted to name his son after his ancestor because he thought that his son was destined for great things. If this is true, then Ashelin saying "Wait, Jak is Mar? The Mar?" is wrong and she misunderstood. Evidence for this theory is that the only known way to the past, the rift gate, was destroyed. Furthermore, the fact that Damas claims to be of the lineage of the House of Mar, i.e. that he is a descendant, only means that there was at one time another Mar.
However, other means of time travel may exist such as more then one Rift Gate exsisting. This has been implied at the beginning of Jak II, when Kor's voice was heard from the other side of the Rift Gate, saying that the last Rift Gate has been opened. Time, as Metal Kor says to Jak at the end of Jak II: "Mar was clever. He covered his tracks well through time, hiding his last egg from me, and building the shield and city to defend it!" From this statement, it seems clear that Mar possessed some way to time travel.
In relation to Jak, the Ottsel Dummy says in response to the Ottsel Surfer's assertion that there are more adventures in Jak's future at the end of Jak 3, "or was it the past?" This could suggest that Jak's future adventures have occurred in the past, or it could just be the Ottsel Dummy living up to his name. However, a small problem in the theory of Jak actually being the famed Mar is that none of the statues of Mar throughout the city look like Jak.
I need help in structuring all these points now. The paragraphs look a lot easier to understand now that they've been separated. I also reworded quite a number of phrases and moved a few points. Feel free to throw in suggestions, comments, or even reword the paragraphs so as to make it more balanced.
I'm not a good enough writer to give a conclusive finish, but really, once you think it's good, go ahead and change it. --Light Daxter - Talk 15:11, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
