History
Edit
The Precursor Legacy
Edit
Red Eco is found in several locations in Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, including Misty Island, Snowy Mountain and Gol and Maia's Citadel. Though it most often appears dropped by Lurkers it also appears from vents.
Jak II & 3
Edit
Red Eco itself didn't really appear in Jak II or Jak 3, and rather, only appeared in the Red Mod of the Morph Gun. It provided weapons such as the Scatter Gun and Plasmite RPG, which were fairly close but powerful.
Jak X: Combat Racing
Edit
In Jak X: Combat Racing, Red Eco provides defences, rear weapons and neutral abilities. It appears as a capsule with a metal band around the middle surrounded by a red glow.
The Lost Frontier
Edit
In Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Red Eco appeared more fully than before since The Precursor Legacy. It was found in Red Eco Vents, which were absent after The Precursor Legacy, and also provided Eco Skills and Eco Powers, which boosted Jak's strength, and provided Jak with the Eco Power Eco Amplifier.
Uses
Edit
Channeling
Edit
In The Precursor Legacy, Red Eco has two main uses: to increase Jak's damage and to break Strong Boxes. Dives will release a shockwave, and range of attacks will be increased across the board. It also grants Jak immunity to Dark Eco crates when destroying them.
The main use of Red Eco in Misty Island area is to be able to defeat the otherwise two-hit Bone Guards in a single blow. It also comes into great use in the ambush stage. In Snowy Mountain, it is useful for defeating the shield lurkers burrowing into the glacier. Without Red Eco, Jak cannot break through their tough wooden shields. There is also a vent in the ambush area which is filled with Snow Jumpers. These are very difficult to defeat in mass without Red Eco.
There is only one Red Eco Vent in Gol and Maia's Citadel, positioned in the ambush area in which there is a swarm of Jumpers just as in Snowy Mountain.
Weapon mod
Edit
Red Eco was used in the Red Mod, which provided the weapons Scatter Gun, Wave Concussor and Plasmite RPG. The Scatter Gun was a close range weapon that could hit enemies in shotgun style attacks; the Wave Concussor could create a 360 blast radius around Jak, and the Plasmite RPG could fire powerful grenades at enemies. Overall, weapons of this mod are fairly close ranged but powerful.
Racing weapons
Edit
Red Eco pick ups provided defensive 'back' weaponry. This included the Magno Mine, which dropped a mine that could stick to cars nearby; the Attack Drone, which would orbit the vehicle using it and destroy close targets; the Damage Shield, which would shield the vehicle using it and damage vehicles nearby; and many others. Overall, the weapons would defend the vehicle.
Eco Powers & Skills
Edit
In The Lost Frontier, Red Eco's Eco Skills are used to upgrade Jak's sub-Eco abilities. It can also provide one of the Eco Powers when acquired from Eco Vents, giving Jak the Eco Amplifier, capable of making a bomb that, when shot with the Gunstaff, can cause an explosion. The Scatter Gun also existed on the Gunstaff.
