Racers fighting in combat racing

Racers engaged in combat.

Combat racing is a competition with race cars taking place on race tracks within various sanctioned race events. By the time of Jak X: Combat Racing, it was described as the most popular sport in the world, with Kras City being the home of Kras City Racing, and the Kras City Grand Championship being its most watched event on the planet,[1][2][3][4][5] with two hundred million viewers worldwide.[6]

The Championship consists of four Eco Cups, with qualifying rounds and a Grand Prix for each cup. Each Cup has a set amount of events spread out over different tracks, and contestants have to enter these for medal points.

Medal points are awarded according to when the racer hits the finish line. The first place contestants earn ten points, second earn eight, and after that it goes down by increments of two each and the last racer earns a mere one point.

Placing first in each of the two qualifying rounds and accumulating 50 medal points will allow a racer to enter the Grand Prix. A Grand Prix consists of three races in a row, without breaks for car enhancements or replacement. The last race in a Grand Prix always takes place on a "tour" race track with only a single lap, except in the final race against Mizo.

MechanicsEdit

Precursor orb winningsEdit

Each race awards all players with Precursor orbs, depending on their ranking, total kills and deaths, total hang time, their longest power slide and the Cup in which they were playing.

Screen Calculation Notes
Medal 500 × (7 – ranking) + 2,000 × cup multiplier The cup multiplier is only applied the first time you achieve an event's gold medal.
Kills 100 × kills Kills during death race and rush hour events award only 1/10th (10 × kills).
Deaths –50 × deaths Dying too many times will see your winnings drop.
Hang time 100 × hang time Only the longest hang time is used.
Power slide 0,25 × power slide Only the longest power slide is used, this field is omitted for arena events.
Event winnings If sum is lower than zero, end sum remains zero. The total orbs won from the event, note that if the total amount ends up being less than zero, you do not actually lose orbs.
Total winnings Event winnings + current total The new total amount of orbs in your possession.

Race eventsEdit

Name Description
Adventure mode
Artifact race Competitors race to get the most Precursor artifacts before time runs out.
Capture A competition based on capture the flag, racers are divided into two teams, red and blue, each with a base, appearing as a holographic sphere situated at opposing ends of the track.
Circuit race A lap-based competition wherein you will race against five other racers (varies in exhibition mode) to complete a certain number of laps (anywhere from one to five, depending on the race track).
Death race Destroy as many drones as possible before the allotted three minutes are up.
Deathmatch Six racers are pitted against each other in an arena track with the goal of executing ten opponent kills or having the highest score by the time four minutes are up.
Freeze rally A time-based race, you have to drive on a track on your own while a timer ticks up. To freeze the timer you can collect tokens that look like clocks.
Rush hour Similar to the death race event, the objective is to destroy drone race cars in exchange for points. However, this time you will have to crash head-on into oncoming drones driving the opposite way.
Sport hunt The goal is to kill more targets, either dozers or raptors, than your opponents before four minutes expires.
Turbo dash Racers must pick up power cells that give their race car an unlimited turbo meter, and are in turn charged via the vehicle's turbo boost. At 100% charge, the cell will launch forward with a potential to strike the nearest opponent, leaving you with both a point and a weaker version of the land mine (regardless of whether or not you do strike another racer).
Exhibition mode
Assassin Similar to the deathmatch event, in that you are pitted against other racers in a literal death match, except now you will be assigned one specific target to assassinate at a time, as indicated by the crosshairs superimposed on your target's avatar.
Time trial The goal is to simply beat the highest score established either by yourself the first time through or by someone else if you are connected to the internet. As such, this event is used to challenge yourself and for practice, as well as to potentially establish a new universal high score.

Keira's Training Sessions Edit

At the very beginning of the game in adventure mode, Keira trains Jak on the basics of combat racing through five sessions. Jak is operating the Sand Shark at this time.

Session #1: Taking place at the start of the Kras City race track, Jak learns to accelerate, brake, reverse, and collect green eco pick-ups.

Session #2: Taking place in only the middle half of Icebound Citadel, Jak learns to turbo boost and collect blue eco pick-ups. Note that the falling snow boulders that normally appear in this section of the track are not present at this time.

Session #3: Taking place in Clifftop Battlefield, Jak learns to perform power slides and get hang time.

Session #4: Taking place in Frozen Speedway, Jak learns to collect yellow eco pick-ups and destroy 20 yellow drone vehicles that are following the direction of the track.

Session #5: Taking place in only the first quarter of Forbidden Jungle, Jak learns to collect red eco pick-ups and deflect enemy missile attacks.

Mizo bossfightEdit

After winning the Yellow Eco Cup's Grand Prix you will have to fight against Mizo using your race car on the Western Tour track, specifically the middle half (from the Dethdrome to Kras City). Actually beating Mizo to the "finish line" (right after you exit Kras again) will cause you to fail the mission. Instead you need to destroy his vehicle using the vulcan fury, grenade launchers and tracking missiles or the submachine gun if no yellow weapon is present. Getting ahead of Mizo will cause him to attack you with his own yellow weapons, forcing you to continue following him.

Mizo himself will also use the saucer drone, attack drone, and oil slick red weapons (though he does pick up the yellow weapons, they remain unused). Both yours and Mizo's race cars have extremely high armor, Mizo's health is present in the top-right and seems to be unaffected by green eco pick-ups, while your own health is lower, it can be healed. Note that to win you'll need to be constantly bombarding Mizo with your weapons, otherwise he will manage to escape with the antidote.
