Gunstaff upgrades are items found in brown treasure chests or earned in side missions in The Lost Frontier. Each Gunstaff weapon has three damage upgrades, two rate of fire upgrades, one ammo capacity upgrade, and one upgrade unique to each weapon. Some upgrades can only be found in Hero Mode, requiring two playthroughs to collect them all.

Upgraded damage 2
Shortly after gaining eco teleport, use it to switch places with a Precursor statue atop a tank with a franken ape inside. From there, enter through a hole in the wall and look for a button on the floor. From there, switch places with the statue again. Return to the room to access the chest that was behind a previously-locked door.
Upgraded damage 3
Only available in Hero Mode, this chest can be found on a small platform down the stairs from the dark eco injector inside the Aeropan research rig.
Only available in Hero Mode, this chest can be found in a small ravine notable for the broken bridge and large stone pillar that has to be pushed over to be able to cross.
After gaining the eco teleport power, return to the Brink volcano and look for a Precursor statue across the lava and opposite a set of swinging poles. Switch places with it to gain access to the chest with the upgrade.

Only available in Hero Mode, located on the small island with the door leading to Tym's treehouse, accessible in the very first mission, "Find green eco fuel".

Found in a chest in Keira's workshop inside the Phantom Blade after boarding it for the first time.
Improved rate of fire 2
Only available in Hero Mode, in the area where you fight the first half of the Uber-Bot 888 boss fight is a yellow ecovent; use it in combination with eco rocket jump to gain access to a chest with the upgrade.
Increased ammo capacity
Near the end of the Brink volcano area, after crossing a series of nine vents emitting bursts of flames and using the eco construct power twice you will reach a yellow eco vent. Turn around here and look for two gas clouds of yellow eco, which when followed while using eco rocket jump lead to a chest with the upgrade.
Increased cone radius
After gaining the eco rocket jump power, return to the first area visited on Brink Island and look for a yellow eco vent, that leads to a chest with the upgrade.

Received after completing the "It's Go Time" mission for Barter's bar brawls
Only available in Hero Mode, in Brink volcano is a breakable wall after a set of vents emitting fire but before a collapsing bridge. Destroy the wall with eco amplifier to access the chest inside.
Improved rate of fire 1
Received from the Precursor statue at Far Drop for destroying 24 out of 30 dark eco crystals.
Improved rate of fire 2
Only available in Hero Mode, inside the Aeropan barracks' maze section shortly before reaching the end of the complex. Use eco teleport to switch with the Precursor statues until the necessary buttons have been activated to disable the barriers that bar your entry to the chest in the bottom-right corner.
Increased ammo capacity
After entering Far Drop during or after the mission "Defeat the dark mutants" but before the revisit later in the game, you can find this item inside a chest immediately to the right next to the shipping containers.
Ricochet
After defeating the ethereal sub-commander inside the Aeropan barracks, use the nearby yellow eco vent and eco rocket jump to fly up to the platform above it and gain access to a chest with the upgrade.

Received from Sector Zero's plane race mission "The Long Haul" after gaining a gold medal.
Only available in Hero Mode, inside a chest on a small island in Far Drop during the mission "Stop the Aeropan shock troops". It is directly behind the second Aeropan commando operating a floating platform.
Improved rate of fire 1
In the barracks you will eventually run into a group of commandos and armadillos coming out of a side room. After defeating the enemies, enter the side room and use eco teleport to switch places with a statue on the other side of a glass wall, then use eco shield to reach the chest across a pool of dark eco.
Improved rate of fire 2
Only available in Hero Mode, located inside a chest hidden underneath the waterfall on the way to rescuing the orphanage during the mission "Defeat the dark mutants". Becomes inaccessible when Barter's tavern is entered.
Increased ammo capacity
Received from the pirate radio tower at the Aeropan barracks for gaining a gold medal in the mission "Weapon Mods".
